Community Groups
Bridge at the Landings
Bridge is one of the most popular activities at the Landings and the opportunity to play is endless. In addition to friends forming their own groups and playing in homes, Land Lovers, New Neighbors and churches have groups which are easy to join for the new resident at the Landings. These games include marathons, contract bridge and duplicate bridge, with games at every skill level. There are day and night games to accommodate everyone’s schedule. Several games are played in the Landings clubhouses, including the men’s duplicate game on Tuesday nights.
The American Contract Bridge League also has a weekly sanctioned game at the Landings. The game is on Wednesdays starting at 10:00 A.M. This game is held at the Plantation Club and normally has 20 tables in play. While this game is for serous bridge players, there is opportunity for new duplicate players to improve their game and enjoy playing with the top players on the island. There are many Life Masters at the Landings and that number is constantly growing due to the abundance of regional and sectional tournaments in the area. Our duplicate director, Veronica Rugles, is a wonderful example of a Landings resident who is dedicated to making life at the Landings more enjoyable. In addition to being an outstanding director for our duplicate games, she has a bridge center on the south side of Savannah which holds many weekly games and where she offers lessons for beginning and seasoned duplicate players alike.
The Landings is a bridge player’s paradise.
Ivy League Club of Skidaway Island
The Ivy League of Skidaway Island is a social organization whose member meet in the spring and fall in selected locations for dinner or, perhaps, for cocktails and hors d’ouveres. Members are graduates or undergraduates of an Ivy League university; Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Pennsylvania, Princeton, and Yale. The club was started by suggestion in 1996 and currently has 42 male and female members with each college represented. Spring and fall gatherings usually bring out 60 to 80 members, spouses and friends.

There are more than 50 Kappas on the island, and we invite all Skidaway Island Kapps to join our fellowship.
L.O.V.E. (Local Outreach Volunteer Educators)
L.O.V.E. is a fully certified nonprofit corporation in which volunteers go into Chatham County schools to mentor one-on-one, usually reading and math, and teach life skills. After a brief training workshop, the volunteer chooses a convenient school and time for weekly visits to assigned students. This is usually for a duration of one-year or more, giving the volunteer and student time to develop a meaningful relationship. Ecumenically sponsored, L.O.V.E. is a valued thrust of the Community Engagement focus of the Chatham County Board of Education. By reaching out, this army of volunteers betters student lives and the future of Savannah -- a terrific way to make a difference.
Landings Automobile Society
The Landings Automobile Society is a group of people with a common interest - cars. Events are held monthly. Luncheons with speakers have included the chief engineer of Corvette, race team owners, Concours d’Elegance managers and other notable automobile enthusiasts. Driving tours and rallies to sites of automobile interest are held on an ongoing basis throughout the year. Day trips and three-datours are arranged to some of the finer cities and resorts in the area.
The organization is open to all those interested in cars. There are about 70 members who own a variety of cars --- examples are: '04 Ferrari Stardale, '25 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost, '32 Cadillac, '57 Morgan, '34 Pierce Arrow, and many Corvettes, Porsches, and other cars of interest.
Owning an interesting car is not necessary to join the Club, but it makes it more fun.
Landings Isola Amici Italian Heritage Club
Isola Amici (Island Friends), was formed by a group of Landings residents to celebrate our Italian heritage. We sponsor two events a year; the first event is a family style Pasta Dinner which is announced as follows: Gli amici di isola festival di Pasta primaverile (Island friends spring pasta festival) “I hope everyone has come thru the holidays, in good health, and is ready for a great new year.”This meal, prepared from family recipes, has grown significantly…we started out with 45 attendees, this year it was over 80 people. We start out with antipasto, then on to a wonderful pasta dinner, then enjoy fabulous Italian desserts…the evening finale is a series of songs and great stories about our fondest memories, celebrating our heritage. During the evening, as we share our stories and enjoy our home made food, the wine flows and Bocelli sings through it all.
In the fall we gather once again, on the Priest Landing picnic grounds, for Bocce, Landings style. Everyone knows the only serious Bocce played in coastal Georgia, is on the Landings in September !! This is the event when we all contribute a dish which must be Italian. Past events featured tables overflowing with salads (no mayo allowed), breads, covered delights, special desserts, all complemented with wines, cheeses and stinky cigars...mix this all up with the wooden balls and a few liars, some excitable women players, and one or two people who can't count, and the result is a great party. You don't want to miss it!!
Our club has no formal bi-laws or elected officers. We simply have a steering committee, and a desire to celebrate our heritage. We started with 5 charter members and now number over 120 which include spouses who are lucky enough to have a connection! We welcome any and all who can trace their heritage to Italy.
Landings Landlovers
The Landings Landlovers is a social and philanthropic 501c organization which is open to anyone residing or owning property at the Landings. We have approximately 1,500 members who participate in our activities, social events and fund raisers. Membership dues are $16 per year and include the entire family.
The Landings Landlovers offers over 30 activities groups, ranging from; bridge groups, book clubs, dancing, cooking, gardening, and many, many more. These leisure and educational groups either meet weekly, monthly or quarterly so it should be easy to find one that fits your schedule.
Our annual events are occasions that most members always make sure to schedule time for. Some of our most popular are; The Opening Reception, Golf Dinner & Dance, Holiday Luncheon, Music/Dinner Theater, Spring Fling Dinner & Dance, Fashion Show, and Year End Luncheon. On the philanthropic side, we sponsor several annual fund raisers that enable us to donate grant monies to non-profit, service-to –the-community organizations, employee scholarships and student community merit awards. Some of these events include our arts & crafts boutique, flea market, house tour, and cookbooks.
We encourage all residents to join us as there is something for everyone.
Landings Singles Golf
The Landings can often be a “couple’s” environment and LSG provides an alternative for those who find themselves on their own. Being “single” is the only requirement. There are no dues except a small donation for prize money.
Our format accommodates all handicaps. Speedy play is encouraged by using a system that has players pick up their ball once they “max out” their handicap. After golf, there is some socializing at the Nineteenth Hole as we divide up the prize money and then dinner afterwards, either at a club facility or in a player’s home.
Our continued growth and camaraderie is our best recommendation.
Music Makers
A group of (mainly) pianists of all levels who enjoy playing duets, exploring the literature for the piano and each others company. We meet informally in our homes the 2nd Thursday afternoon o fthe month, to play for or own enjoyment. Guests and other instrumentalists are welcome. Several times a year we play for an event in the community or at a nursing home. Our emphasis is on sharing our love of music.
Neighborhood Bible Studies
The Neighborhood Bible Studies at The Landings began in the mid 80's under the umbrella of the Landlover's activities, and it continues in that relationship.
NBS is an international organization, not sponsored by any one church or denomination. The only requirement for members is that they believe the Bible is worth studying. The purpose of these studies is three-fold: first, to discover what the Bible says; secondly, what it means to us; and thirdly, how we can use what we learn. One of the big benefits is the wonderful friendships that begin and continue from these groups.
There are currently 6 women's groups, meeting different days and different times, and 2 men's groups who meet early on Mondays year round. New groups are formed when a group gets to have many more than 12 in them, or enough new folks arrive at one time to start their own. Meetings are held in homes, rotating locations and discussion leaders. Study guides are used, and each group chooses its own topic. In addition, the 8 groups, along with the 5 churches on Skidaway, sponsor an annual National Day of Prayer Service in May. This year was our 11th annual service. Between 100 and 300 people have been in attendance.
New Neighbors
In New Neighbors, Landings residents get together to develop new friendships and enjoy a wide range of activities and social events. Membership is open to any woman who has established residency at The Landings no more than 1 year prior to applying for membership.

The Landings Dog Park
The Landings Dog Park consists of two acres of fenced grassy and wooded property centrally located on the island near the water tower at Landings Way North between Bartram and Wiley Bottom Roads. The entrance is adjacent to the nature trail. The park is a great place for residents to make friends and share a common love of dogs. The dogs, in turn, socialize with other dogs while having an opportunity to run free and play.
The park has two separate areas providing a less congested enclosure for small or shy dogs to join in on the fun without feeling threatened. The park has fans, insect control, benches and fresh drinking water.
The Landings Dog Park is maintained by The Landings Association (TLA). Registration information and vaccination requirements are available at the TLA office front desk.
The Landings Men’s Club
The Landings Men’s Club was established in 1996 as an informal opportunity for men to enjoy each other’s company at a monthly luncheon, as well as hear an interesting presentation from a wide variety of distinguished people in the Savannah area- from the mayor to the fascinating experiences of our own members. The Village Library
The Village Library was founded by a group of Landings residents who felt the need for a library on Skidaway Island. The Library began as a small office space in 1989 and is now a beautiful building on Skidaway Village Square. The library is run totally by volunteers and is open from 10:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., Monday through Friday, and from 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. on Saturdays.
