The Landings Pumpkin Cup Off To A Great Start

| | Comments (0)

Well this is more like it! Savannah breezes at around 10 knots, with stronger gusts, and five three-man crews looking to get an advantage. We had some great sailing competition today. The starts were crowded as the brisk breeze and moderate current allowed for a reasonably predictable approach. The second race saw four of the five boats over the line early and Stu Soule, our CINCPumpkin, signaled a General Recall and made us do it over. It stayed crowded through most of the course with boats crisscrossing often as they beat up to windward. Our spinnaker technique has definitely improved and all the boats got the chutes up and pulling reasonably quickly and even doused them cleanly. Stu caught some good photos including one of Yankee getting knocked over and taking on some water with Dave Angell on the bow crouched low. Yankee was definitely on its game today with Dave, Terry Gould and Bill Marxsen each taking first place. Great sailing, guys.

This was the first of three weekend events to determine the winner of the Pumpkin Cup. The points accrued by each sailor will carry forward and be tallied to determine the ultimate winner. Each skipper will get points for two races (the first of the day if they race more than once) so come on out!
