June 2008 Archives
I had the opportunity on Sunday afternoon to attend the Savannah Winds Annual Patriotic Concert at Armstrong Atlantic State University's Sports Center Alumni Arena - just a 20 minute drive from The Landings. What a lovely way to spend the Sunday before Independence Day! The program, MC'd by Bill Catchcart from WTOC-TV and conducted by Mark Johnson, included songs and marches that are near and dear to an American's heart - such as the National Anthem, Esprit de Corps, Arlington, God Bless America, the Armed Forces Salute, and a patriotic sing-along! A touching video accompanied Scott Rogers, soloist, who performed Arlington and brought tears to everyone's eyes. I saw a number of women & men alike dabbing their eyes with kleenex.
I met lots of fellow Landings residents at the concert including a group waving American flags throughout the concert. We all enjoyed the surprises at the end - Mark Johnson conducting as Ben Franklin (in full costume) and a confetti blast that filled the arena with paper "fireworks"!
Don't miss this Savannah event next year --- its one of the most uplifting concerts you can go to at a bargain price of only $12!
On Sunday, May 11th, The Landings Automobile Society held its annual car show at the Deer Creek Clubhouse. We had 44 cars on display ranging in age from 1929 to 2008 .... What a great selection of cars! The 86 members and their spouses enjoyed cocktails while ogling each car and ended the evening with a buffet dinner. There are lots of exciting events planned for The Landings Auto club for 2008 and 2009 including a fall trip to Nashville with a tour of the Corvette factory in Bowling Green. There will also be more of the popular one day mystery rallies, and a November luncheon with a well known local car collector and former sports car racer as the featured speaker.
Where else but The Landings on Skidaway Island can one find so many other folks with similar interests? You certainly don't have to be a golfer to have fun here at The Landings!
One of my favorite summertime activities is twilight golf at The Landings with my husband (although he might not agree with me). On June 18th on the Palmetto course, the Landings Club is kicking off the Twilight Golf season. I love that we start at 5:00 p.m. (when its not too hot) and play only 9 holes followed by dinner at the Club! We get to team up with another Landings couple in order to form our four person golf team for the 8-event season. Its a great way to spend time with friends who love to golf, and a great way for me to spend time with my husband, who usually plays golf with his buddies during the week.
Maybe this year we'll have the highest point total and snag the coveted Landings Twilight Cup or one of the other prizes. I've been practicing with the Ladies every week, so I may just surprise my husband this year! In any case, I'm looking forward to great Landings golf, camaraderie, and fabulous dinners at The Club!
I hope you'll be able to join us for the Summer Coastal Fish-Fry Fundraiser for Clean Coast! Clean Coast is all-volunteer, non-profit organization responsible for holding monthly marsh and beach clean-ups on the Georgia coast. This year's event will be held at The Landings on Skidaway Island at their Landings Harbor Marina on July 12. The public is invited for summertime fun, including music, food, games and a silent auction. Proceeds go to Clean Coast. Don't miss this good time and worthwhile event! If you love the Georgia coast, this is a great way to help. And what could be better than food and fun at Landings Harbor!
I went over to Landings Harbor yesterday afternoon with my wife to enjoy a quiet hour on one of the rocking chairs. We enjoy watching Landings residents return in their boats after a day on the Intracoastal or tooling around the waterways surrounding Skidaway. Was I surprised to see the new mobile Tiki Bar there. I'm not complaining -- I was PLEASANTLY surprised!
What a nice addition to Landings Harbor -- now we can have Captain Ricky and his crew serve us up a nice cool drink while we relax and enjoy the afternoon under the shade of the marina's porch, all the while relishing the breeze that comes off the water.
You must check out this new addition to the Harbor -- stop by and enjoy the company of fellow Landings neighbors while sipping a cool drink. Also, it was a great idea to move the Wednesday and Friday night cookouts from Delegal to Landings Harbor -- we have so much more room there and we find that its a great place to meet our friends and neighbors. That way, no one has to cook and host dinner and we can all relax!
